What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction that promotes healing of mind, body and spirit. Ki is the life force energy that animates all living things (the equivalent to Chi in Chinese). Ki gives life to every bone, muscle, tissue and cell of your body. The free and balanced flow of Ki is the cause of health. You are vulnerable to illness if your life energy is low or the flow is restricted. This restriction could have been years in the making (as in chronic illness) or could have occurred very quickly (as in acute illnesses or accidents). Reiki accelerates the body’s natural ability to heal physical ailments and opens the mind and spirit to the causes of disease, disharmony and pain. Reiki loosens blocked energy and allows the body to reestablish its natural equilibrium.
How does Reiki support individuals with cancer?
I’m sure you can find many testimonials in this area on the internet, however I can only attest to my own experiences with patients I have had the pleasure of working with. When I entered their room, I could sense many emotions..fear, vulnerability, desperation and often intense pain. After the session was over, many had fallen asleep but those who didn’t and were able to share made these statements: “Wow, I had no idea…I was with my Grandma”, “I haven’t been this relaxed since my diagnosis”, “my pain is much less intense”, just to name a few. Presently, I am working with a gentleman who has cancer and we work via distance Reiki treatments. I have been sending Reiki 3 times per week over several months while he is undergoing chemo therapy. We both feel the beautiful healing and he claims to have very little side effects and feels great most days (see client stories on my “Meet Me” page)
Once you accept Reiki, you are able to heal on as many levels as you choose.
What are the benefits?
Reiki can provide a deep sense of relaxation, reduce stress, accelerate healing, facilitate the relief of pain, assist the body in releasing toxins, lessen the affects of chemotherapy and radiation, or remove negative blocks. In fact, because the Reiki practitioner channels energy form the universal source, there is no limit to what Reiki can do.
Reiki has been so effective that leading hospitals around the country offer it, driven by requests from patients and by nurses and doctors who have experienced its value. They report that Reiki reduces stress and anxiety, decreases the amount of pain medication required, improves sleep and appetite and accelerates the healing process. It has also been reported to reduce many of the unwanted side effects of radiation and drugs, including chemotherapy.
What do I need to get started?
All you really need is the desire to find the peace within yourself & an open mind. If you are new to Reiki and maybe a little skeptical, that’s okay! Your mind is probably already open to it or you wouldn’t be here.
What is a session like?
If you are an in-person client, you remain clothed and lie on a Reiki table with the lights dimmed and relaxing music played. The practitioners hands are placed lightly touching various parts of the body, including the head, shoulders, stomach, legs and feet. Some report to feel warmth from my hands and are deeply relaxed, some are taken on a meditative journey. Because each person is different, experiences vary widely but it’s never unpleasant.
If you are a distance Reiki client, we can arrange a virtual meeting. You and I will set up our own relaxing environment (free of distractions) in our separate homes while the session takes place. The healing energy is sent over the distance using Japanese symbols learned in training. People claim to feel deeply relaxed and many fall asleep, no worries though, Reiki works great even when you are in slumber.
How often should it be done?
We can evaluate as we go along and you will know by how you feel.… some feel benefits immediately and most always by the 4th session.
Is Reiki a Religion?
While Reiki is not a religion, it is spiritually guided. Those who both perform and receive Reiki are not asked about their religious beliefs. We are encouraged to follow our own.
